Madurai
Madurai is one of the oldest cities in India and the third largest city in Tamil Nadu. It is located on the banks of river Vaigai and is famous for its temples. The most popular temple is Meenakshi Temple in the heart of the city. It is an important cultural and commercial centre of Tamil Nadu. One of the stories behind the name Madurai is “Madhura” (sweetness) arising out of the divine nectar showered on the city by the Hindu God Shiva. Sree Meenakshi Amman Temple, Thirupparankundram Murugan Temple, Gandhi Museum, Samanar Hills, Koodal Azhagar Temple and Pazhamudhir Solai are the important destinations to be seen in Madurai.
